Raiana McKinney helps lead engagement at regional fisheries management organizations in the Pacific and Indian oceans. Her efforts include advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion and serving on the Global Ghost Gear Initiative’s Define Best Practice and Inform Policy Working Group. For her work, she was named an Emerging Leader by the Environmental Law Institute and highlighted by Time Magazine as the New Generation of Oceanographers.
McKinney previously worked on marine initiatives to strengthen tuna fisheries governance, regulate the trade of sharks and rays, and bolster innovations in artificial intelligence as a member of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea’s Working Group on Technology Integration for Fishery-Dependent Data.
McKinney holds a bachelor's degree in environmental studies with a minor in game design from New York University. Currently, she is pursuing a master's degree in International Relations at Harvard University.
